PRP for thinning hair, explained honestly

PRP uses your own platelet-rich plasma to support the scalp. Studies report improvements for some patients with pattern hair loss — results vary, and suitability is a clinical decision made at your consultation. Some people will be advised against treatment.

Everything you need to know

What is PRP for hair loss?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatment for thinning hair uses a small sample of your own blood, prepared to concentrate the platelets, which is then reintroduced to the scalp in the areas where hair is thinning. Many people call these plasma injections for hair, or PRP injections for hair — they mean the same thing. At our Stoke-on-Trent clinic the whole process is carried out in a single appointment by Haaris, the pharmacist behind Revive.

Who is PRP hair treatment suitable for?

PRP may suit people with early-stage pattern hair loss, thinning after a hair transplant, or female hair loss such as post-partum shedding or changes around the menopause. It is not right for everyone — suitability is a clinical decision made at your consultation, and some people will be advised against treatment.

What happens at a PRP hair appointment in Stoke-on-Trent?

Your first visit is a hair and scalp consultation at Birches Head Pharmacy. If PRP is appropriate, a typical treatment appointment takes under an hour: a small blood sample, preparation of the plasma, and application to the scalp. Most people return to normal activities the same day, with simple aftercare guidance to follow.

How many PRP sessions will I need?

A course is usually recommended rather than a single session, with the number tailored to your hair, your goals and how your scalp responds. Haaris will set out the recommended sessions and the full cost plainly before you decide anything — see what a course costs.
